Chacchoben Mayan Ruins 02/17/2009 10:30 AM
Experience the mysterious Mayan ruins of famous Chacchoben and still have time for shopping. On your way to the Mayan ruins, your guide will provide information on the Mayan culture and history. Once you have arrived at the site, explore the main pyramid, climb the stairs leading to the first plateau and view the recently excavated ruins that lie beneath the sacred ground of this Mayan site. Note: There is a government tax of $5-8 US for the use of video cameras at the site. No tripods and/or professional video cameras are allowed.

Santo Tomas & Puerto Barrios City Tour 02/18/2009 9:00 AM
Your tour begins traveling through the main streets of Santo Tomas de Castilla, with a short ride along the seashore, passing by the naval base and then to the Belgium cemetery where the Belgium pioneers who settled here in the 19th century are buried. Arrive at the city of Puerto Barrios, capital of the Department of Izabal, with history dating from the 18th century. Through time, it developed and was incorporated as a city in 1895 when it was officially named the City of Puerto Barrios. With a frontier-town atmosphere, where locals and foreigners alike fought in the past to reap the benefits of the banana, coffee and sugar trades, the City of Puerto Barrios has grown to become one of the most important commercial ports in Guatemala. You'll also have a glimpse of its Caribbean roots as you are taken through the Garifuna neighborhood, known for its authentic cuisine as evidenced by a dish called 'Tapado'(seafood soup with plantain and coconut milk) rice and beans. Your adventure will come to an end with a refreshing snack at Marbrissa Hotel, one of the most beautiful hotels in the area.

Las Escobas Waterfall Voyage 02/18/2009 2:00 PM
Your tour will begin with a drive to the Escobas Waterfalls, a protected area within the Cerro San Gil Nature Reserve. Once at the site, you'll begin walking a trail through the humid tropical forest ecosystem. This rainforest is found in the jurisdictions of Livingston and Puerto Barrios which forms part of the mountain chain of El Mico. Once at the waterfalls, you'll have the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters before heading back to the pier. Note: Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel.

Lamanai & New River Safari
02/19/2009 8:30 AM
An approximately 45-minute drive up the Northern Highway brings you to Tower Hill, where you'll board a riverboat and head up the New River. While navigating the many little creeks and lagoons, it's easy to encounter hawks, kites and falcons. Dainty jacanas lightly walk on the lily pads while crocodiles bask in the sunlight. At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the ruins of Lamanai (Mayan for 'submerged crocodile') rise into view. As you tour the site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest, amid the chatter of birds and the haunting call of the howler monkeys.
